Install Smooth Agent

One-line installer, pipx, Docker or from source. Linux and macOS, Python 3.9 or newer.

Smooth Agent is open source under the MIT license: github.com/smooth-family/smooth-agent↗. The core needs only the Python standard library and pypdf.

#One-line installer (recommended)

curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/smooth-family/smooth-agent/main/install.sh | bash

It checks your machine, installs with pipx (or a private virtualenv in ~/.smooth-agent/venv), links smooth-agent into ~/.local/bin and starts the setup wizard. Nothing is installed system-wide.

Pass options after bash -s --:

#Docker

Everything the agent keeps lives in ./data. The container runs as an unprivileged user and restarts on reboot.

For the browser tools, set BROWSER: "1" under build.args in docker-compose.yml before building.

#Check the install

smooth-agent version
smooth-agent doctor          # what works on this machine
smooth-agent doctor --ping   # plus a test call to your model

doctor lists the provider and key, channels, optional tools (ffmpeg, unrar, LibreOffice, Chromium) and which file types this machine can read.

#Update and uninstall

Re-run the installer to update (add --ref <tag> for a specific version). With pipx: pipx upgrade smooth-agent. To remove it: pipx uninstall smooth-agent (or delete ~/.smooth-agent/venv). Your data in ~/.smooth-agent/ stays until you delete it.
